How the STEP program can keep you safe: Tips from the podcast

Yes, I know, STEP stands for Safe Straveler Enrollment Program, so saying STEP program is redundant. But just saying STEP sounds weird, OK? Check out the episode for the full rundown of what the STEP program is and all the different ways it can help you when you’re in a tight spot in another country. For a quick tutorial on how to sign up (as long as you’re American), read on! If you’re not from the US, your own country may have a similar program you can take advantage of.

To enroll in STEP yourself (all right, I guess it works by itself…), click here. Here’s what you can expect to see:

  1. Click on Create Account

2. Enter your account information (create a username and password) and basic personal details

3. And finally, add a trip!

Voila, you will now get important information related to where you are and the US government knows where to contact you in the event of an emergency.

To hear some first-hand stories of how this has been used in practice, make sure you listen to this week’s episode. For more travel tips and tricks and stories, follow @GoingOutYourDoor on Instagram and Facebook!
